Holy Week

April 15, 2011

Wow, it seems like this Lenten season has passed by very quickly. This coming Sunday is already Palm Sunday. Next week our Community continues with the Seven Last Words devotion on Tuesday evening and then two days later the three most holy days of the whole Catholic year are observed.

In addition to the services and Masses that we attend during the Holy Triduum, our Community has the tradition of having a Seder meal on Holy Thursday at our Motherhouse. Most if not all of our Sisters attend this special celebration. At the hospital chapel we will have Mass on Holy Thursday, on Friday there will be the Stations of the Cross devotion and Good Friday service, then the Easter Vigil will be celebrated to bring the three days to an end.

Most Catholics know that Holy Week was the last week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ but did you know that the days between Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday are known as Holy Monday (or Fig Monday), Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday (sometimes called Spy Wednesday).

On Holy Tuesday a few Sisters from our Community will be attending the Diocese Chrism Mass for the blessing of the Holy Oils.

Have a Blessed weekend.

Sister Mary Francis
