Our Lady of Lourdes

Today is the optional memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes. Click here to learn more about St. Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes.

Collect from Morning Prayer:
God of mercy,
we celebrate the feast of Mary, the sinless mother of God.
May her prayers help us to rise above our human weakness.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us!

In October 2001, I went on a pilgrimmage to Lourdes, France with Father Bliss and approximately 21 other pilgrims. This event was one of the most memorable eXperiences in my life. I shared what I had learned about Bernadette and all the apparitions with my children and they were truly fascinated. Upon preparation for Confirmation, both of my daughters chose Bernadette as their Confirmation name.
Bernadette truly lived her life through the eyes of Our Lady of Lourdes. Our Lady of Lourdes purpose in appearing to Bernadette was to ask for people to pray especially for the sick and disabled, to as for penance of sins, and for a chapel to be built at the site.Bernadette helped carry out all of these requests. The many miracles of body and soul performed at Lourdes are the proof that Our Lady’s message was one filled with love and adoration for each and everyone one of us.

    Hello Julie,

Thank you for sharing your reflections on St. Bernadette and Lourdes. What an inspiring saint! I’ve never been to Lourdes, but I have heard from others that it’s a life-changing experience.

P.S.- That is so wonderful about your daughters choosing Bernedette as their Confirmation name 🙂

    Hi Sr. Veronica,

Happy Easter to you. I was wondering if you ever been to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows by Belleville ,Il. It is really beautiful to see anytime especially around Christmas because they have their version of festival of lights along with the live animals. It has been several years since I have been there but they have a beautiful church inside the entrance ,along with outside amphitheater, stations of the cross that you can walk or drive it.

They also have the grotto of Fatima, multimedia show that lasts about 30 minutes and a building that houses the gift shop , conference rooms and the necessity restrooms of course. The last time that I was there ,it was around Christmas time to see festival lights and I literally got the last room in the inn that theyhave on the campus.

Have a nice Easter. Ann Creech
