Saint Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373)
St.  Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373)

Saint Bridget was born to a noble family in the year 1303 in the province of Uppland in the country of Sweden.  She was married at the age of 13 to Ulf Gudmarsson.  The marriage was blessed with 8 children. When St. Bridget became a widow she devoted her life to God by becoming a Third Order Franciscan, then sometime later founded her own order, The Order of St. Savior, or the Brigittines. She was canonized by Pope Boniface IX on Octiber 7, 1391. To read more about her, click here.

Saint Bridget of Sweden, pray for us!

Hi Sr.Veronica, I am wondering if this is the order that has a crown on top of their veil in a shape of a cross and a jewels around. When we still had EWTN here , I would see different things or functions and I would see an order of sisters with a metal type crown with jewels. That is what it looks like on Sr. Bridgetta or is there another order that wears that. Thanks , Ann

    Ann,

I think you may be right. And I believe their habit is black. Whether they have been on EWTN or not I don’t know. Try looking up “Brigittines” on Google and you may find something.
