The Novitiate

November 25, 2010

The year of the Canonical Novitiate is going by much quicker than I would like.  It has been almost three months.  I have completed several classes already and spend much time with the Lord in prayer each day.  I helped with the annual bazaar and made dry-pressed leave and flower bookmarks that sold at the bazaar.

Currently I am in a class about the History of the Community and another class about the The Vocation of Man and the 10 Commandments, the text being used is the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  The classes I have completed are the class about St. Francis, Sacred Scripture and about the Rule and Constitutions of our Community.

I will add more to Life in the Novitiate as it continues …..

That sounds like so much fun! Praise God! I will continue to pray for you, Sister, as you journey through the novitiate! I loved seeing pictures of your beautiful bookmarks, as well.

Elisabeth, thank you for your post. Since November 30th our Community of Sisters has been praying a Novena in honor of the Immaculate Conception. On December 7th, in our hospital chapel there will be one of only three International Statues of Our Lady of Fatima, that is displayed globally, brought to our chapel for one hour only. These statues depict the way the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the children of Fatima Portugal in the year 1917 and bring the message of Fatima, namely; peace through conversion to God and there will be a talk given by the official escort of the Statue at our hospital chapel during the one hour. The Statue that will be brought to the chapel was sculptured in 1947. We will have the Rosary recitation, Evening Prayer with Benediction and hopefully many people who come and join us for this special event. This special event starts at 4:30 pm December 7th.

Our Community of Sisters has customs that we honor for the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. On December 7th this Advent season our Sisters will have a Fast and Abstinence day and every year we have our Novena for the Immaculate Conception. This is one of many customs throughout the year for our Community of Sisters.

Hi Sr.Mary Frances, it is so interesting on the classes that you are taking which means that you are never too old to learn something new. It is nice to have one of the statues of Mary coming to the hospital and will it be on air so the patients can see it if they can’t make it to the chapel in person. Don’t give hope and I am keeping you and all the sisters in my prayers. Ann

Ann, thank you for posting. I am not sure if the statue of Mary will be visible for patients to see but our Monsignor and the person accompanying the statue will be speaking from the podium so the patients will be able to at least hear the prayers, follow with the Rosary and listen to the person speak about the statue.
